Situation

Let's face it: chest agitators can be messy, creating unintended HSE consequences and poor reliablity! Their packing is even messier, requiring constant adjustments: when too tight, the sleeve will groove, and the packing will glaze; when too loose, stock will build on the floor and spray in your bearings! lt is a constant battle we are all too familiar with. Very soon, the shaft sleeve is heavily grooved, and the agitator has to come out for service or worse: someone is injured with a slip or fall.

For many end users, sealing an agitator chest or speciality mixer with mechanical seals has never been the first option for the following reasons:

  1. Mechanical seal designs were not robust enough to successfully operate.
  2. Installed split seals experienced unacceptable leakage rates.

This is the reason why EagleBurgmann developed the HGH semi-split seal option. lt was the start of a revolution for ehest agitators and other specialty mixer paper mill applications.

The HGH semi-split seal utilizes split faces and 0-rings while the remaining hardware is whole and non-split.
