SITUATION
Each flushed pump in the mill, packed or sealed, single or double, uses on average 3 ½ gallons per minute of seal water flush. That is almost 2 million gallons per year, per pump. For a mill with 600 pumps that is over a billion gallons per year to treat and dispose of. Add to that the energy costs of heating flush water to process temperature, or evaporating it out of the finished product, and water/energy costs can easily exceed annual cost of mechanical seals at a mill.

The key challenge is to reduce water usage, treatment, and evaporation at paper mills while increasing pump reliability by applying the right seals, the right way.
OUR SOLUTION
EagleBurgmann is already the expert in Europe and Asia at optimizing paper mill sealing operations. Our first non-flow application was installed in Finland on a pressure screen feed pump in 1988 and ran for 12 years before rebuild in 2000. It is still running today. That’s reliability! Our rugged Cartex cartridge double seal can be run dead headed and consume only ounces of water per day rather than thousands of gallons. With an initial focus on high process cost applications like pumps in the evaporation loop (where reheat costs can be in excess of $10,000 per year per pump) our proven track record of increased reliability can have an immediate impact on your overall reliability and production rates and quality. With experience in retrofitting Goulds, Ahlstrom, Sulzer, Allweiler, Seepex, Netzsch, ABS, Voith and others, we can teach your crews how to simplify their sealing water issues and “set it and forget it.”
